Hunting & Fishing
HUNTING IN THE TOWNSHIP
Hunting is permitted in the Township of Wainfleet; however, hunters must acquire permission from property owners to hunt on private property. There are areas in the Township in which hunting is not permitted (see link below in Links of Interest).
Small Game Hunting Licences
Township of Wainfleet Council approved the cessation of the sale of Township small game hunting licences at its meeting of September 22nd, 2009. Hunters still require a Ministry of Natural Resources Outdoors Card, must adhere to all MNR rules and regulations, and must acquire permission from property owners to hunt on private property.
Sunday Hunting
Council for the Township of Wainfleet at its meeting held on August 14, 2007, passed a resolution which requested the Ministry of Natural Resources recognize the Township as a municipality in which Sunday Hunting is permitted. To view the resolution, please click here.
A recent regulation passed under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act added the Township of Wainfleet to the list of municipalities in Southern Ontario where Sunday Gun Hunting can occur. To view a copy of the actual schedule that is the basis of this regulation, please click here.
The Ministry of Natural Resources made a commitment in 2005 to work with other ministries and its partners and to collaborate with municipalities to help resolve issues, including crop damage, resulting from wildlife. One of the elements of that commitment was to permit Sunday gun hunting in those municipalities where the municipality requested Sunday gun hunting in their area.
A list of the areas as well as colour or black and white maps of the areas where Sunday hunting is permitted may be found at:

The federal government has also made adjustments to the hunting seasons of migratory birds (geese, ducks, etc.) under the Migratory Bird Convention Act so that where Sunday hunting is permitted under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, hunting of migratory birds will also be permitted within the open seasons for these birds.
